Quantum operations

Quantum computation consists of applying a sequence of elementary quantum operations to qubits.

Prerequisite:

  • Qubit

Quantum operations are also called gates. Gates are the elementary units of quantum information processing. We describe three of these elementary gates.

  • The X gate changes blue (0) to orange(1) and orange (1) to blue (0)
  • The Z gate introduces a phase change
  • The Hadamard gate introduces quantum superposition.

The Hadamard operation is one of the most fundamental operations for quantum algorithms. mà
